For all the dancers, who want to undertake a professional career in the sector of contemporary dance, D.A.F. offers professional courses, with the aim to improve and specialize in the different techniques and styles of dance. The course has a limited number of participants, only selected through an audition. Some unavoidable motivational characteristics are requested for each student, such as: the natural facility for the study and a global remarkable artistic sensitivity for the knowledge and study of all the subjects foreseen by the programs. The didactical offer is so heterogeneous that guarantees a functional course from the technical, cultural, educational and professional point of view. D.A.F. artistic direction divides the targets of the project in two different branches: EDUCATIONAL and PROFESSIONAL.
EDUCATIONAL COURSE
REQUISITES AND ADMISSION D.A.F. Educational course is addressed to the dancers between the ages of 14 to 20 years old. During the auditions, the artistic direction will select the dancers, who will demonstrate a great talent, capability, and a great aptitude for dance, considering their possible transformation and evolution for their concrete integration in future working contests.
PROGRAM The Educational course lasts 8 months, 90 hours per month, which are divided into lessons made up of ballet, modern, contemporary and hatha yoga and probable other techniques, which the teaching staff can subject to the students. The subjects of study alternate during the week and the students attend 3 classes a day in the afternoon. All classes are restricted entry .
EXAMS At the end of the year, the students have to take a final exam, in which they are assessed by an external commission made up of the greatest exponents of the artistic sector. The exam has the aim to value the actual learning and improvement of each single student of the course. Then, after these 8 months, another 8 months of study in the centre will be proposed to the ones who have demonstrated a great aptitude for the subjects and a great interest in the professional career.
For those, who want to attend the other three years of the so-called Professional project, there will be an entrance examination, after the Educational exam.
PROFESSIONAL COURSE
PREREQUISITES AND ADMISSION The Professional section is for dancers, who have already a technical education and also a working experience. This three-year course is opened to dancers between 18 to 26 years and classes foresee a limited number of participants. During these three years of the Professional course, the dancers’ preparation is integrated through advance ballet classes and through workshops and choreographic atelier with important national and international choreographers, who will be hosted periodically in our structure.
PROGRAM Four daily classes constitute the basic program of the Professional course, which is made up, of ballet, modern and contemporary classes and choreographic workshops held by the teachers of the centres and also by external choreographers and collaborators, who are hosted in D.A.F structure. For a profitable integration of the study course of each student, alternative didactical hours are foreseen during the week, in which the students will further the technique and the study acquired according to methods and subjects, which are complementary to dance, for a better awareness and knowledge of the body and of its potential. Hatha yoga, body awareness, musical analysis, rhythm study and anatomy study are all subjects, which are a part of this disciplinary field. Study sessions are dedicated to the knowledge of complementary techniques, such as muscular and physiological recovery, breathing techniques and nutrition. During the second year the study plan intensifies progressively. The students have the possibility to get in touch with choreographers and international companies, with the aim to develop together advanced didactical courses aimed at forming independent and creative artists with a further knowledge of the different performing arts. Specifically for the Professional course, D.A.F. direction structures “PCW”, that is to say, Personal Creative Work, a workshop aimed at stimulating in the students the creative readiness concerning the choreographic composition. Starting from a choreographic work pre-planned by the teacher-choreographer, the students will intervene individually in its development, elaborating in an active way the knowledge acquired until that moment, and also according to their own personal initiative.
EXAMS At the end of the academic year, the students of the Professional course will participate in an exam which lasts two days, in which they will prepare works in reference to their studies and the competences acquired until that moment. At the end of the exam, the detailed program concerning the second year will be given to the students, who will have revealed interest and a global maturity for the continuation of the formative course. In order to achieve the diploma, the students are invited to put their strength in a project, a creative work, a synthesis of the studies learned during these three years, where they can experiment personally the work and the dynamics of a real company. We will create the experience of an original and creative process, with the help of guest teachers and important choreographers. We will become an integral part of a professional group, which will debut, at the end of the course, before a board of examiners, made up of directors of some of the most important companies of contemporary dance in the world, with the aim to offer contracts to the most deserving students.
